Willie Nelson -Pretty Paper

PRETTY PAPER
(Willie Nelson)

Pretty paper pretty ribbons of blue
Wrap your presents to your darling from you
Pretty pencils to write I love you
Pretty paper pretty ribbons of blue

Crowded streets busy feet hustle by him
Downtown shoppers Christmas is nigh
There he sits all alone on the sidewalk
Hoping that you won't pass him by

Should you stop better not much too busy
Better hurry my how time does fly
And in the distance the ringing of laughter
And in the midst of the laughter he cries

Pretty paper pretty ribbons of blue...
Oh oh pretty paper pretty ribbons of blue

  • Willie wrote the song in 1961...NOT Roy Orbison. He wrote it about an old man that used to sit on the sidewalk downtown Ft. Worth...Many of my relatives remember the old man.

  • Thanks Irishcountry, love Willie Nelson...So Lovely & Faved..Thanks for the share Seasons Greetings Merry Christen...Bless you Ann:)

  • @annalis71 my husband is deployed for the third time so I know alone I am a pro at being alone

  • @LinnechaRose20 no one should be alone, I am here for you even though you dont know me.

  • I can relate to the man in this song...I'm all alone this Christmas.

  • @Irishthunderhead This is not a cover, Willie actually wrote this song :)

  • Good Job Willie............

  • Willie wrote it, Willie sings it. Merry Christmas to all.

  • Thank you for posting Willie's original version, and not his later remake. When he rerecorded it, it lost some of the poignancy in favor of a too slick sound.

  • @FantasticlifeinJesus Near the beginning of the song, the lyric is "christmas is nigh", nigh being an old word for "near".

  • @FantasticlifeinJesus Christmas is nigh
