I don't get it.
That;s not music.
Music is much more like when you rub raw hamburger all over yourself in the shower, or when you molest small pink poodles, or when you belch into a recording device.
Thats's music.
I get it!

Then how come you said that nobody likes his music? I like his music. Are you and I the only ones who do? Does that mean that there is something wrong with us? Is there something horrendously unlikeable about Zappa's music that everyone else is able to pick up on but we aren't?
So many questions, running through my mind...

I was really only speaking of his late atonal stuff (I thought I was commenting on a different doc that was about him composing that stuff but that was a different one). Its a lot like contemporary classical music, most people hate it/ don't get it and what I meant in my comment is that it would be cool to be a dude that spends all his time making art that almost nobody cares about and not give a shit/ love doing it. Most of his stuff is relatively popular though.

I've noticed with Zappa's work that albums seemed to catch on 4-5 years after they were released. Y'know after a "mainstream" artist basically ripped off whatever Frank was doing people would find the Zappa album that was the source of it all.
I don't know that Frank's instrumental and chamber music isn't liked. It may not appeal to those who purchased Sheik or Drowning Witch but I think that most Zappa enthusiasts enjoy that part of his work.

On the other hand, I've never got the impression that Frank was writing his music for us. I remember Zakk Wylde saying in a VH1 top 100 artists program that you had to be a musician to even understand FZ's stuff. It sounds kinda elitist and pompous, but I think that he was talking about the atonal work and that the quote was likely taken out of context, kinda like your comment here :).
