Gerry Duffy completed and won the DECA Ironman Challenge 2011.
At 5 to midnight on June 12th 2011 a wet, fatigued, muddy but smiling Gerry Duffy crossed the finish line for the last time. Over the previous 10 days he had swam 38km's, cycled 1,800km's and ran 420km's! Of the 19 people who attempted to complete 10 Ironman-distance triathlons in as many days, only 3 finished. Gerry finished first. His cumulative time? 160 hours 10 minutes and 37 seconds. His time ahead of the man in second place? Over 19 hours!
This is a clip of the RTE Six One News on the day after he finished the event.
In 2010 Gerry along with his friend Ken Whitelaw ran 32 marathons in 32 counties in Ireland to raise funds for Irish Autism Action.
