You 'could' build a DIY jet engine out of a turbo-charger but it's not all that efficient (plus it's LOUD). I'm going to be running a cheapie craigs list generator and charging a battery bank.

Efficiency and volume aside, think of the killer honda civic you could make with something like that! Land-speed record anyone?
Are there any modifications needed on the generator in order to run on this fuel, or is it essentially the same as standard gas?

Yes, basically you have to remove the existing carburetor and fabricate a simple connector to pipe the gas directly into the manifold. 2 valves are needed just before that. One to control the gas input (throttle) and one to mix external air (choke).

The ejector setup can be found in victorygasworks profile Adam, on the fourth page of the Fluidyne Gasifier Build blog post. Note that the air intake valve was moved before the compressor input. Any other small modifications are noted.
