@Sonshine420 If your message is meant as a threat then congrats.Youre just contributing to the stereotype that has been the driving force of your supposed cultural genocide. There is so much bullshit within your message I dont even know where to start. If youre an honest, hardworking and contributing member of society then great. I have no issues with you. If youre one of the people who are just wasting my tax dollars and taking it for granted, then I have no time for you. No one does/should.

@brud9: She'kon but you are misinformed. I suggest you learn more about yourself and find out where you're from. Yes, this World's tough on everyone (except a few), and no one's saying you don't have a sad story, but you're wrong. I'm Mohawk and have NEVER received any type of Aid so watch what you say because if it comes down to choosing who you want to be enemies with, THE CROWN or the Iroquois Tribe. I'm here to inform you that being enemies with the CROWN is your safest bet. PEACE n' OCCUPY

@brud9 You clearly know nothing about social issues facing FN ppl, experiences in residential school, nor the impacts of colinization and the Indian Act. My grandfather was is residential school for 5yrs and my grandmother was in there for 3yrs. Residential Schools were a tool for Cultural Genocide.
In 2006, 14% of First Nations graduated for High School and 3% continued their education. So when you see or meet first nation peoples in Uni, you should be congratuating them and not hate.

how sad that people turn a deaf ear and blind eye to the truth and that we all are like sheep when it comes to the government's trickery and lies. What happened to the people on this land during colonization is a sin before God and man.

@fizzypopism I guess one day we'll share the same fate at the hands of the Chinese or something, haha. Peace to you.

@Lukege15 >not even entirely British
>incredibly loyal and non violent
>still prefers America
Ouch. Such is the life of a Canadian.
-
@fizzypopism A little about the American West, if you choose to focus on the US in History. We don't learn about what they did in Canada, or even the original 13 colonies. They also don't teach us what they did in Ireland, India, Australia, New Zealand or even Africa. Nothing to make ol' Blighty look bad.
-
@Lukege15 I suppose an Irishman would empathize with the Aboriginals.
BTW, is colonization taught in British schools?
-
@fizzypopism "For us to support Israel and then face the reality of the natives creates cognitive dissonance."
Yes, the contradictions hurt sometimes.
I must say that I'm Irish in heart, and learning about our history with the First Nations was what got me interested in the First Nations. The Irish killed more Indians than any other race, and though we've tried to make amends (we apologized and raise money often, particularly for the Choctaw), I feel the best I can do is to spread information.
-
@Lukege15 Well, I'm not American. But to be fair, I know President Jackson was a dick, but I don't think that the primary argument against him should be "Hitler liked him". Hitler also liked herb gardens and Wagner.
I think the truth is, that America support Israel, right (same with the UK)? And that was basically giving back long ago stolen land to the original owner. For us to support Israel and then face the reality of the natives creates cognitive dissonance.

Do people understand all the benefits that Aboriginal people acquire just for being born part Aboriginal?! Im a University student and will be probably 25K in debt at the end of this. I know aboriginal kids who are quite literally being paid to do the same thing. Many of whom dont care, attend class and who really dont even deserve to be here. They pay very little tax, they are funded for EVERYTHING!!!! I think the Canadian Govt has paid its debt...its time to stop this crap!

@brud9 "I know aboriginal kids who are quite literally being paid to do the same thing."
Oh really? Or did someone you know just tell you that? Or is that your misperception based upon the stereotypes that are so prevalent in our society? Do you know of the waiting lists facing indigenous peoples who want to obtain post-secondary education? They shouldn't pay taxes, this country was stolen from them, they are treated as second-class citizens, and their cultures were almost wiped out and devalued

@academianon I know the indigenous kids quite well. Four of them to be exact. Three of which receive a $700 check from the government every month, on top of bursaries, on top of free text books, on top of free tuition. They did not have the grades in high school to get into Uni and don't have the grades to stay in the program but exceptions are made based on their ethnicity. Seems like they're treated better than everyone else and why? For being born native they're entitled? Come on...

@brud9 You do realize that four people is anecdotal at best. Until our society is more equal, yes.. I do believe that indigenous people can benefit from assistance. It is not based upon ethnicity solely, it is a political legacy. Their peoples were almost annihilated by colonization and their cultures and practices were systematically devalued. Their economic situations are very different than mainstream Canadians. I'm sorry you think it's unfair, but I have to disagree and say it's necessary.
