My vet called me on October 3rd regarding a rescued, female 3-striped mud turtle. A woman had found it in her yard, didn't move for some time, so brought it to the same vet I use for my turtles. He called me and asked if I would rehab the turtle. x-rays showed no eggs, bone structure looked healthy. She is missing several nails on her right foot, one nail on her left foot. Weak and tired but otherwise fine. We will keep her as long as necessary to get her back up to speed.

  • I need help again how do I tell if my red ear slider is boy or girl

  • @Trap100100 I don't keep sliders, but generally the males have a long, thick tail, the females a smaller tail. The cloaca on the female is high up near the body, on the male it is located further down the tail. Check with the Turtle Forum for more help on that.

  • Lovee it. But what are you light hours? Especially when they lay eggs. Or are they always on?

  • @Teppieification lights are on about 12 hours a day, off at night. The back area of the basking/egg laying platform is shaded even when the lights are on.

  • are the other turtles you have in that tank 3 sstripes.... and also do you take in sliders that are sick in the wild?

  • @Noraturtlefan all of my turtles are 3-stripers. I have no room for any more turtles. You need to find a rehabber in your area to help you out. Or call a local vet who handles exotics/reptiles.
