Empty stomachs: a new sign of poverty

Report: Given the financial crisis and impending recession, empty stomachs are just one of the many signs of increasing poverty in the UK. Food distribution centres are now feeding not just the homeless but people who work for a very low wage.

It's horrible to see poverty in nations like the UK.

There is a bitter irony on the streets , we see immigrants continuing to enter the uk, and indiginious english people struggling paid and unpaid , it needs a real pragmatic hard cure , but many are scared of being handed a  race card, or being totally misjudged, fear and pc stylishness are compounding the problems, if the uk was a business it would be a overstaffed, bankrupt and unable to function, the polititians need 2 earn their pay and sort it .

@oktobercat what u said makes sense but its not the whole story seen the BBC documentary we are rich we pay no taxes? the top man philip something paid himself n family £1.2 BILLION but paid No tax at all cause his wife owns all the shares n she lives in Monaco immigration should only be allowed when there is a shortage of workers but cheap labour-=cheaper wages the rich pay at the expence of the local workforce totally immoral still a far better more civilized counhtry than the us by a long way

@afewtube What is the difference between poor in Britain, and poor in America? Most poor people in America have big screen TV's and cable (a necessity!), eat out most every day, and refuse to drive a car older than 3 years. In short, it seems that most poor live a lot better than poor people should be living.

@TheMenyun Then let Onslow get dirt poor!! because if he actually found himself headed in that direction, Im willing to bet that he would get up off his lazy arse and find a way to take care of his family ON HIS OWN, as he should be doing! And Daisy would be at work earning some cash for the family instead of being laid up having another child that they can't afford to feed with the fruits of their own labor!

In socialist Britain, and with six kids, he is better off living on welfare than working.

If he is struggling, why did he have so many kids? Answer: because somebody else - the British taxpayer, will pay for them.

Welfare payments are more than than to live healthily - if you can be bothered to cook healthy foods, which most welfare claimants can't.

Most of the so called poor have big TVs, a home at subsidised rent, some have cars, foreign holidays.

They are lucky not to be poor in America.
