Think about what life could have been for Billy, if circumstances were different around...with the qualities he had and the heart he possessed I`m sure he would live exactly this - a Wonderful life...
on the other hand, I think Billy lived his life the way he wanted, to the fullest as it`s mentioned in one well-known song;-)
So that`s it - his Wonderful Life, sad or maybe not so...at least I didn`t think he thought he lives a sad life, that`s for sure;-)

thanks dude... yes, I agree, that's exactly what made all men like Billy so compelling - they just lived life the way they wanted it to, without considering any false, imaginary rules... they were just free spirits, and that's why we all love them and admire them.

I think Emilio Estevez interpretation of Billy highly contributed to getting more simpathy from the ppl in general, myself included =P, by far the best Billy the Kid ever played in a movie.

The thing about Billy the Kid is he is mysterious, the situation he was in was not black and white, the Santa Fe Ring ran things in New Mexico and for a while Billy was a deputized Marshal. I always found it interesting that after he gunned down two deputies no one tried to stop him escaping and someone lent him a horse which was returned. That makes me wonder about the context of Billy's history.

billy is still the most famous outlaw of the old west because he never robbed stores banks or trains. He robbed cattle and horses from wealthy ranchers and often just gave them away to local new mexicans who loved him for it. That and he went after the bastards who killed john tunstall.
