its not cecil that needs to change for you.. you have to change for cecil. and then it will make sense. a deeper sense of inquiry is needed.

I felt kind of relieved to see this clip, because Taylor's music is just so advanced, and almost inhumanly genius, but here, although rather eccentric, he is as human and approachable as my music teacher. So in a way, this kind of clip that shows his domestic side is a nice accompaniment to the surreal and otherworldly world of his music. Made me laugh that he was singing and dancing to the sweet sentimental songs that he would never, ever, play on his piano!

Damn! This guy doesn't have a disingeniuous bone in his body... probably why some people think he is so "weird."

I too cherish seeing the earthly Cecil Taylor - it adds to the enjoyment of his music! However, I believe he *does* play these songs in his music - abstracted and interpreted in his own way, as any artist does. Listen for the feeling, not the tune, and you may hear it too. At times, Cecil's music can be so sweet and sentimental (e.g., "After All") that I'm baffled why some say his music is inaccessible.

PS...I am not going to say he is "advanced" or a "genius" and congratulate myself on my great taste for liking it...i am just not that arrogant and i don't let my "superior taste" get in the way of listening to music like some of the authors of comments on this video seem to...the important thing is that you can listen and try to empathize or get something out of it, not self-aggrandizement of the dilettante/connoisseur...get over yourselves please.

ok...this video is my first exposure to cecil taylor, whose name was mentioned in a book I am reading...from this video, i gather that what he is mainly about is modeling his rhythm on something other than what most people think of as music...even if it is a motion produced by a musician (not the sound, but the physical movements) or something else in the world, like a tree or a train...maybe i will see something else in another video.

Hi comments on colours seem strange, but I wonder if he has synesthesia? Many famous musicians do. It might explain his need to link the visual and musical worlds so intimately, there might be no division in his mind.
