Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs visits the Great Yorkshire Show with Elmet & Rothwells Prospective MP, Alec Shelbrooke.
On Thursday 16th July 2009, Alec Shelbrooke accompanied Nick Herbert on his visit to the Great Yorkshire Show.
Speaking with visitors and exhibitors as well as members of the NFU and Countryside Alliance, the Shadow Environment Secretary discussed the Conservative Partys Rural Action Campaign.
Elmet & Rothwells Prospective Conservative MP, Alec Shelbrooke said it is great to be at the Yorkshire Show; an opportunity to show our support to the farming community and meet the many visitors to the showground. Our new rural action agenda is to set out how buying fresh, local produce is a great way to support our small businesses in Elmet and Rothwell.
Nick Herbert, Shadow DEFRA Minister, commented that the Conservative Rural Action agenda is to end the era of disrespect for rural communities. It has been a difficult decade for our rural areas, the closure of post offices and rural schools has damaged rural economies. The Rural Action agenda sets out our plan to revive rural economies and devolve power back to rural communities.
