Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin's long association with a non-mainstream Christian denomination has raised concerns about to what extent the church's beliefs might influence her own public policies.
A professor of religion who spoke to ABC News about Palin's Pentecostal background even implied that Palin may be running for vice-president despite knowing that she is unprepared for the job because she believes she is doing God's will.
"Sarah Palin, if she was just a plain evangelical woman, would have a tough time thinking that she should be VP," Anthea Butler explained. "She'd have questions about 'what's going to happen with my kids.' But a Pentecostal woman is saying, 'God's calling me, I'm going to answer that call.'"
Palin was a member of an Assemblies of God church in Wasilla from the age of ten until 2002, and she still appears to maintain close relations with that church, having spoken there as recently as last June. The Assemblies of God is a Pentecostal denomination, and if elected Palin -- who continues to attend a Pentecostal church in the state capital of Juneau -- would be the most highly-placed Pentecostal ever to hold public office.
"Pentecostalism has been described as the evangelical experience on steroids," ABC's Dan Harris explained. "Like evangelicals, Pentecostals believe the Bible is the literal word of God and that the end times are near. But Pentecostals also believe that the Holy Spirit can give you gifts, like speaking in tongues, prophecy, and divine healing."
Although Pentecostals are sometimes dismissively described as "Holy Rollers" for the unconstrained physicality of their worship services, Sarah Palin's former pastor, Tim McGraw, told ABC, "Christianity can become awful, intellectualized and cerebral, and Pentacostalism also involves physical demonstrations, emotional connection with God."

I have attended pentecostal assemblies for several years. It seems that there IS a certain structure to their speech pattern, a combination of Italian and Swahili (in how they pronounce words) and baby speak. The open vowels 'a' and 'o' are used a lot, perhaps because those are the easiest vowels to say during hysteria. I am interested to figure out where and how this came to be.
And Americans wonder why the world views them as ignorant imbeciles! If it hadn't been for black and Hispanics, they would have that woman leading them by their noses. Ten of thousands of nukes in the hands of people like these - horrifying.
Well christians have been saying that along time. In fact jesus said something like he would return before the apostles had died, well he did not. The church had a big dilemma on its hands when he didnt return and had to change what they had originally believed in. Its an impossibility that christ will return. Return from where? heaven? heaven or hell are inventions from the bronze age. The jews modeled yahweh on egyptian monotheism, and christianty was/is a judaic hybrid of paganism.
