Sorum couldn't have done a better job, he got everything done when he was asked but couldn't properly fill the void left by Steven. Few people know that the best songs from the UYI albums where written with Steven such as You Could be Mine, November Rain, Don't Cry & Civil War.

I agree with StuRaz. Izzy did state that he felt Matt's sound wasn't working for the band. I also think it's true that adler was largely responsible for the groove and catchy beats on Appetite for Destruction that you don't actually get on UYI 1 and 2.
However, i don't think sorum is a lousy drummer. I think he came at the right time in a sense that his drumming brought in a much more technical feel to UYI 1 and 2, allowing the audience to appreciate a different side of the music.

Matt did a great job in Guns N' Roses, and the rest of the band thought he was good.
Gilby on the other side, had no chance of replacing Izzy's skills in song wrigting. He never really fit in, so eventually he got kicked out. That was the beginning of the end.
Tokyo in my language is Tokio :)
