A visit with West Nyack's own organic gardening teacher, and super uber-apiculturalist Ron Breland reveals new ways to understand and to love our honeybees. Ron's impressions of Apis mellifera, the sacred and intensely intelligent, creative and spiritual anuimal aka the uropean Honeybee, have been shaped by years of experience as well as the practice of spiritual scientific research into the bee's true nature involving a process of combining meditation, observation and loving intent - what Steiner would have called an uber-spiritual impulse, given that Styeiner saw the this all-for-one, one-for-all superbly communal, collaborative, cooperative, creative, sweet and mellow insect as the most spiritual animal on Earth. Funny, you might have thjought it was the Catholics!

Not only did Steiner predict the decimation of honeybee stocks and the extinction of the honeybee around 2,000 if modern bee-keeping practices were extended, but he also predicted that a few hundred years from now humanity will ascend to the moral and functional level of the honeybee colony. Ron Breland is devoted to finding more respectful ways to house these divine creatures than invasive and not at all natural Langstroth "file cabinets". Apparently, the rectangle is not a relevant sacred geometry here!

Ron's bee housing is inspired by Brancusi, too. Brancusi was a contemporary of Picasso's and his work sells for more than any other sculptors', but also seeks a spiritual insight into the shapes of the things it depicts, a streamlining to the essence.

Similarly, Ron's honeybee-housing sculptures are meant to elegantly recapitulate the honeybee torso, while allowing for a bridge between man (spiritually number 5) and bee (spiritually number 6). These bee houses are meant to help humanity grow into the proper relationship with the honeybees, while helping the honeybees be happy by providing privacy and roundness within as well. Check it out and follow this leader back to heaven!

Ron's devotion is only surpassed by his humor, humility, humanity and humaneness. Visit Ron at Bumps and Co., his West Nyack botanical nursery specializing in the plants honeybees love, like linden trees, rue, thyme and nettles. And buy something!

  • To be honest at first I found this useless when compared to my expectation which was honey harvesting info. I watched it through and when I got to 6:37 it clicked! Of course the bees are not just for honey they are part of our environment. Why not keep them in this way and help provide safe places for them? Thanks for posting this and helping remind me of the sacredness of these precious little ladies.

  • @cetaceans4ever Woww, easy , easy youtuber.

I didn’t say that the video is useless but the way of beekeeping shown in the video is.

The video is perfect. If you propose to 100 beekeepers this way of keeping bees, I’m sure that none will adapt this method.

  • @ArtaniAM Your reply is NOT interesting but is useless! Why don't you use your brain and write something constructive? Are you the type that criticizes everyone because of your own inadequacies? Or perhaps you could not comprehend the video, so like a little child you wail and denigrate everything that surrounds you. Grow up and stop poisoning everything you touch. The video is a wonderful piece with insights into the world of the honeybee. Thank you Dana for sharing this video

  • Interesting but useless.
