This is an exercise to build up speed and coordination in alternate picking. It's also handy for practicing chromatic scales for later implementation into your solos. For an example of one of my guitar solos where I use some chromatic scales, check out my cover of Edwin Starr's 'War' right here:

Listen for the chromatic stuff towards the end of the guitar solo. Also, please check out my latest album, 'Too Proud to Beg' on iTunes, Amazon mp3 or here:

  • Jazz III XL is nice!

I mostly use the small ones, but I use the black ones... they have a much better feel to them and texture than the red ones. After using the black ones I never use the red ones anymore. Harder to find the black ones too it seems.

I guess it's true what they say "Once you go black, you never go back"

Sorry for the horrible joke!! hah!

  • @gitarmats lol, I've heard the black ones are different, never used one though. I'll have to try and order black Jazz III XLs next time and see what I think.

  • @GJaunz

Do that! I am 70 % certain you will perfer those!

They flow very nicley over the strings, but the red ones has this feeling about it that feels like they kinda get caught in the strings. I don't know how to explain it, but let me know what you think when you get a black one!

  • @gitarmats Actually, I totally know what you mean. I've always felt the red Jazz III XLs were the perfect shape, but wasn't crazy about the material, wished they slid over the strings a little easier. I'll def try the black ones now, thanks!

  • scalloped fretboard?

  • @w00per yes indeed! I'm a big fan of scalloped fretboards. I've always hated dragging my fingertips across the fretboard when bending or using vibrato, so when I found out about scalloped fretboards about 5 years ago, I took a round file to one of my old beater guitars and scalloped it myself! I liked it so much that when my wife had this guitar made for me custom, I had to have a scalloped neck on it. I didn't want to mess up this beautiful guitar though, so we left it to a pro this time!

  • @GJaunz

Now I'm 90 % sure you'll perfer the black ones!

  • @GJaunz never really tried a scalloped fretboard before. I'm thinking on haveing a guitar with fanned frets(baritone scale). Because when tuning down lower than D-standard/drop C tension is getting a real problem on 25,5", And i don't want my string to0 thick
