Some of Irelands Finest nationalist weren't catholic. Catholicism is over rated

unless you still believe in fairy tales and the pope who's wealth is invested

This is true...as a republican/nationalist i actually had some degree of respect for Gusty Spence for his later actions. During his paramilitary career he actually stated he respected the IRA as an opposing military force, even offering condolences to the families of dead IRA volunteers. A far cry from the scum of the earth loyalist of more recent times.
