How To Fix Xbox 360 open tray error - doesnt DETECT cds

i open it, put a cd in, close it, it says reading for a bit, then says open tray again. i can play it perfectly fine, in fact right now it has the sides top and bottom off and im playin it, but i still have to tap it to get the motor going

i recently got the red ring, and im probally going to get a new one. even if i do fix the red ring, i still have to pound on it. ill try getting ms to fix it for free, if not ill pull the money out of my ass to buy a new one. if any of you want to donate to the killjoy charity good deeds donation, just tell me!

i bought a new one, and now after returning that one and getting a new one (:P) iv been doin fine. hopefully you guys follow my example, cause theres no way its gonna fix itself.

@Blindretard what is the white peice on top of the disc, and how did you get it on here?

@shotcalla187 normally theres a metal box surrounding the cd, but i took that piece out of the box. it was by far the hardest part of the process, but it depends on the version xbox you have. if you have one version, you can just twist it and turn it and work it a bit and itll twist off, otherwise with the other versioned xbox it just comes apart after you cut the big square sticker off. what it does is its magnetic so it sticks to the other piece on the other side of the disk. i hope this helps

befor u guys even open up your xbox and risk messing up anything inside try this! go to radioshack or bestbuy or any electronics store and ask for a lens cleaner cs its a cd that cleans the lens inside your xbox most people think that its a error or a glitch ad maybe it is but i saved myself alot of money doing this cs is only 14.99 at radioshack so u guys should give it a try maybe something simple like my xbox anywho hope this helps

Thank you so much for doing this...I bought a disc cleaner because i thought it may help but i couldnt get the disc to play. I did what u said and it worked and i was able to run the cleaning disc. now i can play any of my discs...thank you so much :)

My ps2 had this problem: First, lightly cleanse the laser with rubbing alcohol. Second, there should be two white plastic cogs that adjust the height of the cd tray on either side. There should be a small hole through them along the edge. This must be aligned to a slit right above the cog. Align them on both cogs, and you should be set!

my open tray doesn't open sometimes..

i can hear it wanting to open but it seems to be stuck..
