    He's spent the entire season downplaying his health problems, changing the subject, saying he was doing fine when he wasn't. He didn't use anything but his voice to win the competition. Much of his fan base (which varied widely in age and across both genders) was sick of all the screaming, strutting, seizure-inducing performances of the other contestants. You must not have been watching the show at all if you thought he was looking for sympathy votes.
