Testing my VIA POV 1.5 on my mates Ariel at a race day on 7th June 2009 with the British Historic Racing club.

The footage looks pretty good so from that perspective I was happy with the POV 1.5, however the huge vibrations from the single cylinder 500cc bike with no rear suspension made the POV cut out after only a minute or so of riding. Either the micro-switch controls were being depressed or the batteries were flying off their terminals from the vibration (I suspect the latter). On one run the camera cable became unscrewed from the DVR, however some electrical tape cured that problem on later runs.

My mate will be building a steel enclosure with a thick foam seating for his next race.

  • did you go to Lydden? I was with the BSA Bantam racing!

  • Na, I've never been to Lydden. It's my mate who's racing not me, although we have thought about going out on an outfit together for a laugh.

I'll be at Anglesey on the bank holiday weekend as my mate is racing both days, well I'll be there for the Saturday at least.

  • @jonredhornet the ariel sonds good typical ariel sound though have you ever thought of having the crank ballanced by bassett down ballancing there great we had a troumph and got it done gave 5bhp better and the engine didnt shake the bike to bits ! not even the levers moved ! when the engine was running

  • @GREEVES246

    Hiya,

This is my mates bike, I'll let him know about your comment regarding balancing the crank (I've no idea what he's had done to be honest).

  • I wonder if its better helmet mounted here too..? Have seen a couple of guys using cams on motorbikes here on youtube and most seem to suffer some kind of problem when used directly on the bike.

LOL Its bad enough the vibrations I get on the cycle

Good footage though! That engine sounds loverly! :-P

  • Yeah I agree that would be better, couldn't in this case though as my mate hadn't cleared filming with the club and went through scruitineering without the cam attached, bit naughty but hey :)

I'd have to hide the cam as well if I used it on a track day as we're not allowed to film (as they have people there who you're supposed to pay to film you, cheeky whatsits).

  • Nice vid! Impressive acceleration, and the sound... glorious :)

  • at 1:01 you overtook Ian Scutt!

  • Yeah we had that at me Bro's martial arts events. Anyone who got a camera out got asked to leave as the event organiser had paid a fortune to a "pro" who then took a load of crappy blurred photos.

I snuck some film shots at a previous event and gave them all a disc at the club.

Sad thing is videos like this actually help promote sports and events, or activities. People just aint interested in the Pro's shots/video thesedays
