A lot of people still think this game is a Square Enix project.

This is incorrect

Square Enix bought out the rights from the original makers, of an Indie corporation who couldn't market it on their budget.

Then, Square Enix slapped their logo all over it, and let the critiques think that this was a game made with the full resources of Square Enix has.

The game was finished by the time SE took it from the cold dead hands of someone else. After that, a beautiful game was considered cheap. Sad.

@demosj XII was more memorable than XIII, and had a little something called ATMOSPHERE. It didn't require you to get the story by looking at a bunch of in menu pamphlets (although they did have those as an option) The story was rather compelling at times, and the villages were VILLAGES, not just scenic looking urban places of no return whose sole purpose is for generic soldiers who look like knock off's from the Spirits Within movie to constantly attack you!

Never tried XI since it's an MORPG, but there's no way that could be anything but shit.
