Wood burned properly has very reasonably low emissions, and wood is a renewable resource, unlike coal and oil and natural gas. Burning wood properly, in a heating stove, especially modern EPA certified units, is very cost effective and beneficial. Rather than building a big messy fire to clean up the yard, burn it in a wood stove to heat the house in the winter. This takes care of the yard cleanup and winter heating all in 1 step.

Yes, mankind has been burning wood since the beginning. They were called cavemen. Is that REALLY your ideal comparison for a 21st century standard of living?
The average human life span has doubled since the end of the 19th century. Along with medical advances, the phasing out of wood burning for heat and cooking is a primary reason.

Woodsmoke is, according to EPA studies, 12 times more carcinogenic than equal amounts of tobacco smoke. Just because humankind has been burning wood does not mean it should continue. Woodsmoke is harmful and there are other ways to stay warm. Let's make smart, compassionate choices.
