  • What a pity that Anglicans stole this magnificent building from the Catholic Church. Now, the vast majority of Irishmen don't have a Cathedral on their own and the small Anglican community keep two great Cathedrals in Dublin. It seems unfair to me.

  • That's exactly what I was thinking when I visited there. I didn't realize it was taken over as Anglican. Are there that many Anglicans in Dublin that they need two huge cathedrals? hmmm.

  • @RedCeltic I know how it looks but it's not exactly how it was Dublin being in the Pale built the two cathedrals and when the church of Ireland was founded the majority in the pale followed although over the years of course the C of I has become almost as small a minority in the Republic as Jews are in the US But in the 19th century the RC church replaced their pro(provisional) cathedral with a the most massive church in Ireland St Marys Pro Cathedral but I understand your feelings

  • @sfowatcher you may not be aware that St Mary's Pro (provisional) cathedral is the Roman Catholic cathedral in Dublin and it is larger and newer than both St Patricks and Christchurch Since independence the Protestants in the Republic have gone from 12% to 4% of the population which is mostly concentrated in the greater Dublin area and Wicklow The all Ireland cathedrals of both faiths are in Armagh in Northern Ireland and yes the C of I has the older but the RCs have the larger newer building

  • @pjdonagh extremely well put I would love to see Haiga Sophia a church but it's not in the cards the Roman Catholics have a larger newer cathredal St Mary's Pro(provisional) Cathedral in Dublin larger than St Patricks and christchurch By the way the cathedrals of all Ireland are in Armagh in norther Ireland both Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland and yes the Protestants have the older one but the Catholics have the newer larger one

  • @sfowatcher Perhaps the Roman Catholic Church should give back the 2 cathedrals stolen from the moslems at Cordoba and Seville.....and that could be followed by allowing the return of the Orthodox christians to the great mosques in Istambul?? Let's face it, this Cathedral was built by the anglo/irish for the the establishment in the Pale and at the reformation they simply kept what was theirs!

  • The church of ireland should give one of the cathedrals back to the catholics .

  • where is it in Dublin?

  • Bad music !

  • I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me and I even went to school in the Grammar school there. I should know about these things. lol
