Hi Q: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=3o-cjA3fgpM&fmt=18

Disclaimer: this is not an endorsement of religion. Instead, it is intended to illustrate one of the very few good things to have come of religion -- the financial support of human creativity.

Cathedrals, churches, and abbeys set to Thomas Thallis' Spem in Alium. This is a forty-part motet, composed by Thomas Tallis around 1570. "Though composed in imitative style and occasionally homophonic, its individual vocal lines act quite freely within its fairly simple harmonic framework; allowing for an astonishing number of individual musical ideas to be sung during its ten-to-twelve minute performance time."[wikipedia]

(Tallis is anachronistically featured in "The Tudors".)

  • Hello saphistische,

I repeet oft to Your film, to beautyful cathedrals and lovely music of choir. I know group of choir Ex Cathedra.Connection of music and architecture are for me almost art like in the natur, landscape. Ecpecially thanks for Your film.

  • Thanks, abacurro. I'm glad that you like it.

Art as in nature or landscape -- that's an interesting way to express it. I think that Gothic cathedrals are glorious.

Are you saying that you are familiar with the "Tallis Scholars"? (the choir)

  • Ten film to piękne połączenie architektury i muzyki chóralnej. Piękna jest architektura Gaudi'ego, ale gotyk, z którego Gaudi czerpał swoje nieśmiertelne wzory, jest ojczyzną piękna katedr średniowiecznej Europy. Very, very thank you Saphistische!!!

    Wonderful film!!!

  • Thanks, abacurro

I don't think that there are any Polish cathedrals in the collection, though I'm sure that they are just as lovely.

It takes pure genius to make stone look so delicate.

  • Yes, as I love Yosemite, Giant Sequoia and Guatemala. It is fun, and pleasurable to join beautiful images with music which compliments those images.

  • I meant that I love both Spem in Alium and the picture of cathedrals, but, yes, the process is fun. I started the project forgotting how long the music is. Egad, I *was* tired, I mis-spelled Tallis for the first time ever.

  • I have just one word in response to that ...... arrkkkkkhhhh!

  • Uh oh. Have you been praying at Sarah Palin's church again?

  • I understand the challenge of 10 minutes! My next vid is ready to post and I've got the idea for another.....I'm trying to keep them under 5 minutes! I agree, I'm finding the labour of love very pleasurable as well.

  • Ten minutes took so long to make that I inadvertently put one image (roof repairs at York Minster) in twice. Still, it was a labour of love, so it was pleasurable to make.
