Bintan lsland is the largest of 3,200 islands in the Riau Archipelago and the 3rd largest of 27 provinces in Indonesia. Located at the crossroads of one of the worlds oldest and busiest maritime trading routes, Bintan has provided a safe haven to traders and sailors from Europe, India and China for over a century. It was on the island of Bintan that the Sultan of Malacca found refuge from Portuguese attack in the 16th century, mapping tales of legendary importance when Bintan grew as the centre of the powerful Johor Riau Sultanate.

Approximately 1,140sqkm in size, Bintan Island is located 50km southeast of Singapore. The largest island within the stunning Riau Archipelago, the island is well known for its rich historical past as much as its legendary beaches and natural beauty. Situated at the centre of the crucial Indo-China trading route, it has been in the midst of several power struggles throughout history.

In Bintan island, most of the resorts accept Singapore Dollars (SGD) & US Dollars (USD). However if you plan to take a trip to Tanjung Pinang city, all the transactions are in Indonesia Rupiah (IDR) so you're required to exchange your currency to Indonesia Rupiah when you plan to visit Tanjung Pinang city. You can also find many money changers are available in Tanjung Pinang city.

Tropical weather. Temperatures range between 23°-32°. Several daily ferries run between Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in Singapore to the capital of the Indonesian province Riau Islands and takes 45 mins.
