I noticed this hawk on the ground outside my home office window because a mockingbird was shrieking from a tree branch right above. I didn't manage to get footage of the mockingbird, and once I saw the condition of the sparrow I didn't bother trying to stop the hawk. The sparrow was still alive, but barely. Had I managed to scare the hawk away, Karsten or I would have had to wait for the sparrow to die, and then go remove the body. And Karsten already removed the body of a dead finch from near the bird bath this morning, so we're not exactly wishing for any more of that.

And besides, this is nature. I love the sparrows and hate to see this happen, but the hawk needs to eat, too, I guess. I just wish the hawk ate seed.

  • @Deinonychus6 for sure ,, it is a young coopers hawk ....

  • @needtogetalife50 hey dick head !!! true ,, many people are uneducated in certain aspects... I would bet that there are some subjects that would have you looking like an ignoramus too!!!

  • @TheFalconryFan perhaps they are when it comes to falconry but then perhaps you would be the dumbass when it comes to mathematics ?? or history ?? or geography?? or physics?? you dumb ass!!

  • Nice clip!!! yes you are absolutely right!! the hawks need to eat ,, that is a juvenille coopers hawk.. We should be thankful that they are around or we would be completely over run by sparrows ,, starlings ,, and doves .. which is what they seem to catch most often around my house... If you aren`t seeing it happening ,, it is still going on ,, so be thrilled to be one of few who get to witness this type of event ...

  • You're a dumbass.

  • Ah you are from the US...so it´s an Cooper´s Hawk.

  • A young Goshawk ... I´m not sure but it could be a male !!
