This video will teach you the 4 fundamental learning methods to employ when preparing for your exam or test.

.Hierarchy Organization concept: the emphasis is on summarization and categorizing of concepts in a hierarchy pathway. Important concepts should be at the top, where little details should be at the bottom. Summaries of concept information such as excerpts, or concept maps are examples of this theory in action. As a student, you should perfect your summaries of the information you learn. It will help you understand your material, as well as help you retain them for longer periods of time. It requires a bit of time investment to start, but the payoff is well worth it.

.Gap Learning: Gap learning requires that you identify your current knowledge, and the knowledge expected of you by your teacher. This is the gap that you should be filling with your study time. Sounds obvious? Yet how many times do you go over your notes reading information that you already know? A good way to practice gap learning is taking a red pen and crossing out every bit of information that you learn. As you review your notes over and over again, there should be progressively more red lines and fewer things to learn.

.Fundamental Recondite Knowledge: In order for you to begin learning subject, you need to know the basic language system pertaining to that subject. For example if you want to write an English essay, you need to know the English language. If you wanted to ride a bike, you need to know where to sit and where to hold onto. If you wanted to learn about biology, you need to know what a cell is, or if you wanted to learn about chemistry, you need to know about what an atom is. Many university level concepts require much higher levels of recondite knowledge, and thus a good study method is make a glossary or definition page that defines all these strange terminologies.

.Personalization: You likely remembered what you wore today, and probably forgot what your friend wore. What does that say about human nature? You remember things better if they are associated with you in some ways. For this reason, information that has a relationship or meaning in your life will be remembered a lot longer. This is why practical courses (psych, health) are a lot easier to remember than abstract courses (science, math). Some methods that you could use to personalize information include trying to relate them to your life, or by using analogies to explain complex ideas. Another effective method is to make your own notes, and not use the professor lecture notes to study. Adding colors, underlining, or bolding can also help add personalization to a piece of note.
