thumbs up to the JO, I live in OP, keep a look out for my blacked out '01 off-road edition

@MrMicas101 its not so much the heat issue its a back pressure issue by running a pipe thats too big you loose all back pressure thus burning up valves HOWEVER with the stock exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters theyre is PLENTY of back pressure on the motor fuel injection adjusts to the changes so heat isnt a consern at all my ol gas burner was straight pipe no problems it actually increased power and mpg and all 3 of my diesels are too they dont have any issue at all...

I used to drive my Ram like that and the engine blew. So I put another 4.7 in it and I am waiting for it to die. My 91 Ford runs better than my 02 Dodge. Your truck sounds good though, sorry I am venting.

whew , guess he told you .. haha

@MrMicas101 Fuel trim values sir, are calculated upon engine load, open or closed loop status, evap system performance and the only thing to cause the engine to run lean would be cracked intake gaskets or vacuum leak and short term fuel trims will be maxxed out, cracked exhaust manifolds allowing more air into the upstream 02 sensor. You better go read a book on how modern fuel injection systems work before i make you look worse.

@MrMicas101 really, guess being ford and ase certified makes me dumb. Wonder why my truck with 88k thats been straight piped since 12k hasnt had any issues... and i beat the hell out of it.
Engine temp is controlled via thermostat. The engine is not going to lose heat due to less restriction in the exhaust. UNLESS you are running open headers zoomie style, allowing cold air rushing in on a hot valve... stoichiometric meaning air fuel ratio is controlled by PCM via fuel trim values

@1fastscottsdale i would suggest you stop talking, straight piping any car or truck is not good. your motors supposed to stay at a certain tempature, straight piping will let heat out the engine and valves will cool down and heat up and so on, ive seen two cars in my shop with cracked valves because of it. and your engine needs the right fuel to air ratio, straight piping will cause it to breathe wich is a good thing but your gonna be running way to lean.your are a complete dumbass.

@1fastscottsdale Well said sir.

@MrMicas101 oh yeah its going to throw a rod through the block right? Or wait is it going to crack a head? Bend a valve? Burn a valve? As a matter of fact straight piping a truck gas and especially diesel is by far one of the best things you can do for the engines longevity. If you knew anything about back pressure and all the emissions BS plus beer keg sized mufflers and resonators that create backpressure you wouldnt make such an ignorant post.
This engine is just fine sir, 120k and not so much as a hiccup.
