Dickie STRANGLES him...u know cause of the fragile plot.Those of us who been in fights know its instinct to deliver punches to your opponents face...but what would that do the plot?Dickie goes missing,Tom has bruises...game over.When two grown men of same size fight to the death,both should get scarred but plot dont allow. Dickie came off as extremely easy to kill....best moment when Dickie gets up n fakes punches.Tension...beats the book where Dickie was a dumb lamb to slaughter atleast.

Tom getting on his feet,loosen an oar stuck 2 the boat n slash it across Dickies head in 0.6 seconds...really? 1.From the behaviour of these two n info,one has clearly been involved in violence n the other hasn´t. N Dickie had yet lost so much blood that he had become retarded.Of course he has to say the line"Im gonna KILL you!"U know,so we as an audience can justifie the murder...but making Tom so omnipotent n powerful he has to beg Dickie to not kill him.PLEASE DICKIE!STOP!

Nice...thanks for the upload. Now,THIS scene is basically what earned Law his oscarnomination. The way he goes from laughing to getting slightly annoyed,turning his head,not saying a word,just studying Toms fit while Dickie is boiling on the inside. Brilliant acting! 2 bad Mingella chickened out where he had a great opp. to be somewhat true to the book..when rejected.Let Tom kill him...and mean it! Turning this into half accident,halfselfdefense was soooo pussy n ruined a brilliant scene.

It is a superb book (a favorite of mine, in fact), but I prefer the farcical incubus that is depicted in Minghella's film adaptation.

Agreed!:O Great movie though! I really enjoyed it. The ending, of course, surprised me. ;O
When I was watching the movie I kept trying to predict how Dickie would die, but I didn't expect him to die like that, creepy. o.o The effect was good. I was like, "Whaaat?!" Lol
