Inside of Central State Hospital.

This place was originally intended to be a "Garden of Eden" for the mentally ill. The grounds were almost completely forested. Lush flower gardens were planted. The idea was that patients could be isolated from the stresses of modern society and their minds could heal in a peaceful environment. Unfortunately, the place fell into the hands of those who had no respect for this idea. The forests and gardens were cut. The hospital ultimately became a "storage facility" for the insane.

I went there two different times with two other friends, so three of us total. The first time two of us heard footsteps crunching the leaves on the ground outside while we were walking through the hallway on the inside. The second time we went, we explored a different building. When walking from room to room, once again only two of us of the three heard something. This time it was mumbling which sounded like was coming from outside. We looked outside and nobody was there. Coincidental?

I've been to quite a few state hospitals and Central State was by far the worst. It was literally a warehouse. My first visit was around 1987. People literally were strewn about the halls. It was poorly administrated and the staff didn't deserve the abuse from the media and general public. They did a heck of a job with little to no resources. There is just as much story in the compassion of the staff than there is in the horror of being a patient. I hate that its become a curiosity.

; people say we need to reopen places like this not realizing tht some of them closed cause they ABUSED the patients.
Interesting video, but it needs a good, factual narration not sappy music. My ancestor resided here in the 1870s. He died in 1876. From abuse? Good question. Was he dumped in an unmarked grave? Another good question. Patients there at that time were treated like animals. It's whole history is a history of monsterous treatment of the mentally ill and a legacy of society's general view that the metally ill are beasts, not worthy of compassion.

you're absolutely right. when i first made this video i didn't know anything about central state, or it's history. i chose music that would allow the viewer to come up with their own inner dialogue. since that video was made i've visited CSH 10+ times and have compiled a binder full of info, stories, and incrementing evidence....some of it's i've posted on my flickr account, and the rest of it i'm just waiting for the right time/way to share it.

the place isnt even scary or haunted

@GNRisbeast maybe not, but the are pretty toxic..the ground is contaminated with syphilis and asbestos and unmarked graves thus making it more costly for the city to do anything with it.
