  • This patient had a fully flaccid left leg and arm. No movement of leg were possible at that time.

  • It doesn't matter if the patient had full flaccidity of left leg. There are better ways to facilitate normal movement of the shank when moving from sit to stand. For example, try sitting on the left side of the patient with a non-rolling stool. The shank moves forward and then back with sit to stand. Blocking the tibia actually shifts him to the right and limits correct shifting to the left.

  • The shank translates forward during sit to stand. By blocking the knee into extension the therapist is not encouraging normal kinematics for the task.
