@Lankist They didn't ran out of money. This game was hosted by NC Soft. It's one of the world biggest online gaming companies along with SOE and Blizzard. They DID not ran out of money and I'm pretty sure they still made even a small profit with the game's subscriptions. Taking Tabula Rasa offline was for the sole purpose of making room for projects that bring in even MORE money. NC Soft got greedy and THAT'S what killed Tabula Rasa. No playerbase nor lack of money. Simply greed.

@LhynnBlue Yeah, I agree with you! (XD)
A good example is Dungeons & Dragons Online. The creators conffirmed that now they gain much more than when the game was P2P.
It's a shame that Tabula Rasa didn't got F2P. Now that I see those videos, my desire to play this game just increases! In my opinion, it was the best futurist MMORPG out there! (*_*)

@Lankist no you are wrong, lots of games outthere turned to F2P and improved their profit by a LOT.

wicked! is thsi game on now?

@Lankist Richard Garret Funded this operation with his own money, And earned a profit to go to space. NC Soft and other company shut him down before he was able to go up to space but profits from the game where his enough to take him up, The game wasnt made to keep going.

@AngryCrowTakesFlight Actually, I looked for myself and reputable sources like Games Developer (Magazine) state their poll revealed average earnings of $95,300, from $74,600 at entry level and to the more senior earning $125,700 annually.
-
@AngryCrowTakesFlight So HOW MUCH, remember, less than $100k not less than £100k
-
@Treblaine 100k a year? i don't give a shit what michael pachter says, he just predicts shit. he said kinect was gonna cost over $250 lol. it's nice to see game developers living in mansions and diriving around in ferraris isn't it?
-
@AngryCrowTakesFlight What?!! Coders don't earn 100k per year?! YOU LIED TO ME, MICHAEL PACHTER! WHY DID YOU LIE!?!
... I should never have trusted gametrailers.
(Seriously, how much DO they earn on average? And of a 3 year development, how much of that time are coders employed?)
if this had been a free to play game it would have been successful

Think about this for a moment.
Tabula Rasa as it was had 100% of its playerbase giving them $15 every month and they still could not afford to keep the servers running.
How could adding a ton of players (i.e. bandwidth use) and taking in a fraction of the profit they did before possibly help?
They ran out of money. Taking less money cannot help them.

@Lankist F2P games use micro transactions to make money. They frequently give out new content which you have to pay for, like the free patches you get in P2P MMOs. They also sell temporary buffs and other stuff. This would perhaps bring in alot of new players, which means more money... So, how was this game? Was it skill based or stat based? Was it PvE or PvP focused?

@PsychoT1m
Those games are also designed, from the ground up, to be manageable with that sort of profit model. This game was designed specifically to be subscription based, and implementing a system of microtransactions would not only have outraged the community but also broken key components of the game.
TR was pretty fun if you had a group of friends to play it with. You could PvP a little, but PvE with a team was the focus.
