This is a morning view of the fire, which is just southwest of us, combined with the same view 12 hours later. The fire has advanced considerably, and the nearest mandatory evacuation was just announced 5 miles from us. Getting interesting to say the least.
The video is somewhat shaky, as each time we run out to film, we keep forgetting the tripod, but as we have to dodge the cops anyway, the point is moot. We live on the same mountain, but our view is west - this SW view is from within a high end community, who is not taking the influx of video camera toting numbskulls lightly, or well. :)
As of 10pm 10/23/07 - The Harris Fire is 70,000+ acres and only 5% contained. There have been over 500 houses as well as other structures destroyed. There were 4 firefighters injured earlier Sunday when the fire burned over their engines. 13 civilians have been burned on this fire. The communities of Potrero, Tecate, Dulzura and parts of Deerhorn Valley and Rancho San Diego have been evacuated. The fire is burning to the northwest and being driven by Santa Ana winds. Containment is not expected until the 31st..
I can't believe that if you stayed there you wouldv'e been burned to a crisp...

Nah... It never came THAT close - 7 miles or so I think. It was scary, but it was ultimately ok. Not so for folks who were RIGHT in the way.
