Fake caliper is made of a different plastic composite compared to the original Accumeasure (that I have as well).

Fake caliper does NOT have the Patent(s) on the back nor does it state where the product is made - U.S.A.
Original item has "US Patent 5,156,161, Canadian Patent 2,127,888 EPO Patent 0,616,506"
Patent info here: http://www.google.com/patents/about?id=hDAcAAAAEBAJ&dq=5,156,161

Fake item do does not work as described; the press button should make a "click" sound when pressed and then return to it's natural position, the fake item however gets stuck after pressing and does not retract back to its natural position

This is taken from the Accumeasure website:
"Unique, patented features include an audible and a tactile "click" when the predetermined pressure level is reached for accurate body fat measurement. The "click and feel" approach help an individual generate accurate, repeatable, and reliable results."

Fake item comes in a plastic pouch with a zip seal similar to that of a sandwhich bag, the instructions are a piece of paper.

Fake Caliper's Accumeasure text is smaller, not as bold as the original and it is hard to see from the video but the letters are not as raised - a comparison of the difference would be like that of braille (Original Accumeasure) to a laser printed page.

  • I just brought one of these fake ones, exactly as described, plastic pouch + instructions.

They're useless, because it's so hard to get it to "click", the plastic handle bends before it clicks. So I always got a reading of zero, even on my finger bone!

Measure it by holding it on the head of the caliper so that the plastic handle never bends and sort of make a guess on the correct pressure to apply.

  • @niknah Sorry to hear, where did you get it from?

  • Hey, thanks for this video. Mine looks very much like the original but the button does get stuck... Does that mean it is a fake? And how does this affect the accuracy?

  • @A10z34111 Check if it has the patent information at the back of the caliper - if there is no patent info or writing it is most likely fake.

  • Im about to buy one of those on AMAZON, do you think the sell the fake ones?... Besides that you should make a video about how to use them properly... thanx

  • @GabrielNotTheAngel It is to hard to tell going off the information on the amazon site, as they do not have a picture of their actual item and description is brief. I have come across a lot of fake items on Amazon. I would check eBay, buy with PayPal, if it is a fake caliper claim item not as described and get your money back.

I might upload a video soon on proper use of the fat caliper, its easy but can be done wrong if not careful

  • Thank you for showing us that !!! :)

  • Apparently I purchased a fake one, but the plastic isn't shiny and press button don't stuck, am i lucky ? :p

  • @KimiMclaren I worked there they are fake

  • Thanks for this. I made the mistake of buying one on Ebay, and sure enough it was fake. The reading is very inconsistent. I just purchased a real one from a more reputable Web site. Wish I had seen this video first!

  • Thanks!

  • TO BE HONEST IT IS QUIET IRRELEVANT... YOU JUST GO ON ABOUT THE PATENT?

SHOW US IN ACTION. USE BOTH AND LETS SEE THE DIFFERENCES IN READINGS. IF BOTH GIVE YOU THE SAME WHATS ALL THE FUSS ABOUT?

  • zomg! i bought a fake one ><<

coz mine didnt click....so i thought it was fake...then i saw this vid....but mine doesnt have tghe patents on the back :S farout!

  • both of these designs were stolen from our company, the original skinfold caliper by FAT CONTROL

  • Thanks to your video I realized I bought the fake one!! But I didn't want my money to go down the tubes, as I have very little of it, so I just took a nail file (you can also use sandpaper) and filed the inside of the notch where the circle thing goes so that it would kind of click but not stick, and it worked! So if you bought the fake one, there is hope!

  • Im not paying $20 for a plastic thing. I just ordered one from bodybuilding for $6. I'm sure it's good enough to do the job.
