About 8 years ago I bought a projection alarm with a normal clock in Lidl's for £4.
It is still going strong.

that would be awesome to go for a ride like that...and then park the way they did!!! i suppose it would have been more fun with a car that has more torque than a Z.
but thats ok. its still good fun :)

The rest of the LCD is dark because there are crossed polarisers in those regions. The two polarisers (filter and LCD) are at right angles, and no light gets through. When the LCD segments are switched on, they change polarisation by 90 degrees and allow light through.

I understand why light is transmitted through the digits with a field applied. But I don't understand why the other digit segments, and indeed the rest of the LCD, are dark where there is no voltage.
Very cool project! I may have to try it. (You should get this project on MakeTV.)

Fantastic!! Either i am getting stupider or your just insanly intelligent! ill go with the second one. I have some neat ideas but sheesh you just keep pumping them out one after another
