The Isle of Wight Festival is proud to announce another headline act for 2012. Taking the top slot on the Festival main stage on Friday 22nd June is American rock and roll icon Tom Petty with The Heartbreakers at his side. This will be an extra special performance, as it marks the band's FIRST ever UK festival appearance and their FIRST major UK show in 20 years.

only bought my tickets today and already i'm sick of reading people complaining because they've never heard of the band, well in that case don't go, don't buy a ticket, go and watch the artic monkeys or who-ever, quickly before they break up because their label has dropped them, more tickets for real music fans who've waited over 20 years for tom and the band to play in the UK again, they could sell the IOW twice over, just them and springsteen alone could sell next year several times over

@barnettbeans u can travel 400 miles in the other direction & see the stone roses at T in the park, think they are an 80's band too tho, along with a host of one hit wonders who can only dream about writing one classic like american girl or thunder road bought my first springsteen album in 1974 and first TP in 76, but if its not to your taste then i'm sure there are plenty other festivals that will be over the summer, i'm travelling 800 miles and it will take 4 flights there and back, worth it
