51 Yr. Old playing for about 13 months now drumming along to the Doobie Brother's "Another Park Another Sunday" from the Live from Wolf Trap concert with my DIY Stealth Drum Kit. Triggered mesh drum heads, dampened and triggered cymbals all plugged into an Alesis DM10 module.

  • I took some lessons as a kid not much, im 56 and just bought the pdp-m5 tobacco burst drum kit, with hardware/sabian cymbals! I have owned a bar/cafe for a few yrs. and on Tues nite i have a local blues musician and some talented unknowns take the stage for a few hrs. and the best part is that i sit in on a few songs....i LOVE it, should of done this years ago, but it;s never to late!!!!

  • @rugman900 You are right - it is never too late. Making music is definately good for the soul. I'll bet your PDP set looks stunning. I prefer Sabian cymbals for acoustic - I had AAX Studio, Xplosion, HHX Evolution, and Legacy cymbals. I sold them all to convert my kit to an acoustic / electronic DIY hybrid. I used ZBT's as they are inexpensive, smooth, and sturdy. Clear PVC is adhered underneath and triggers / chokes installed into an Alesis DM10 - looks & plays like acoustic, but is edrum.

  • Are you serious about playing for only 13 months? If so I would have never guessed! I got my kit when I was 12. I still play them but recently started playing guitar with a band (rythym) I've fiddled with guitar all my life but got serious about it when I turned 30 (I'm 36 now). I can't picture life without playing/making music. Nice song you are accompanying.

  • @theshipsdrummer Thanks - and yes, at the time I recorded this I only had 13 months behind the kit, and the first 6 months I really did not get a lot of playing time. Since I converted the kit to DIY electronic - I get a lot more practice in without disturbing my family. The kit is quiet to play, and is triggered into an Alesis DM10.

  • Man is that a GORGEOUS kit!!! And I'm a guitar player!!! Nice job!!!

  • @PaulKJHarris Thanks man! I'm very happy with my DIY conversion "Stealth Drum" kit. Best of both worlds - Acoustic look, feel, play-ability combined with the quiet play and versatile sound capabilities of an electric set. Everything on the set is dampened and triggered into an Alesis DM10 (even the cowbell). I then route the digital sound through an analog mixer to add more of an "acoustic" sound. Thanks for nice comment - it is appreciated!

  • Fantastic job! Right on point. Great song too.

  • Nice job and video. Great song to cover.

  • @jorisca5 Thanks! I use a Microsoft Lifecam 1080p webcam - which is very small and lightweight. The overhead is mounted with one screw into the wall (used a plastic insert) - the cable is not long enough to run it parallel and then drop it down out of sight of the drum set, so I added a 6' high quality USB extension cable - and then plug it into a USB 2.0 port on my laptop - 6' extension is the maximum without the camera "freeze framing". The file size is really small even at HD level recording.

  • How do you get the camera up there? Good cover, you have a really relaxing style :)
