it is actually a Marc Cohn song that Cher later covered.

I have to say, this version of the song is disappointing. Cohn's version has nice breathing room and lets the lyrics settle before he moves on. Lonestar seems to just go through the motions of hitting the notes and saying the words -- you can tell the lead singer isn't feeling the message behind what he's saying.

Actually, it was first sung (and written) by Marc Cohn in 1991, but Cher did cover it in 1995.
