nCloth simulation of a female dress in Maya 2011

Character and dress created with the demo version of Marvelous Designer.
The original mesh is heavy, so I've simplified by using maya polyReduce and quadrangulate to improve simulation performance (4-5 minutes on a Centrino T7200 CPU for 500 frames).
Since the mesh is simple, the simulation has few details.

  • do you know where can i find a tutorial to make something like this?

  • @karadanianoI Are you already familiar with maya? For example, you may try Digital Tutors online courses.

  • @bboykuro yip, i can rig, model, and animate, but i need more training rendering, uv mapping and the clothes animation.

wich exactly tutorial of DT do you recommend me to animate clothes?

  • wow thanx mate didn't expect a scene file. thanx for your time and effort helping out a fellow cg artist.

  • Download this scene file (containing the original mesh with polyReduce and quadrangulate as inputs in history):

    "goo[DOT]gl/eWyAd"

    (replace [DOT] with ".")

  • I have no knowledge on exporting to point cache. my other problem is im using maya 2012, so currently there is no maya 2012 collada support.

  • I figured that is what you did. Have you seen the MD to max to Maya workflow for converting the mesh into quads and transferring the attributes over to get a good quadrangulated mesh for final output.

Maya has a very bad quadrangulate funtion and the reduces is ever worse.

Maybe you have settings that i could use to improve the output?

  • Thank you. I actually did exactly the opposite, in fact I created the dress with Marvelous Designer and then exported in Maya as OBJ; finally, I simplified the mesh using polyReduce and quadrangulate, then simulated using nCloth.

Maybe you should try to export the animation as point cache or collada. I'm sorry but my demo version of M.D. has expired so I cannot try on my own if it works.

    I hope I was a little helpful!

  • Excellent job mate.i noticed it a Marvelous designer Character.could you please elaborate on you workflow between marvelous designer and maya.

Im currently trying send an animated character from maya to marvelous designer and do my cloth sim in there and the export my simulation back into maya.

im getting stuck with the exporting of my animation.

If possible could you please give my some discriptive notes on how i would go about doing this.

    thanx
