The brain is spontaneously cycling through elaborate, distributed patterns of activity, which mimic activity patterns associated with sensory, motor, or cognitive events. This is a movie showing the instantaneous patterns of spontaneous brain activity on the dorsal surfaces of the both brain hemispheres.
