I can't imagine what would have been in her mind when she read that. She was probably thinking of her own family and friends who were trapped under the rubble. I'm sure it was hard for her.

I believe that she was reading off a list of numbers of deaths in various cities. After she read half way through the list, her voice was trembling.

Whether she was thinking about her own family or friends, no one knows.

It's clear she didn't realize the magnitude of the disaster until she started reading those numbers. By the way, those numbers are staggering, some up in the hundreds of thousands. They probably just gave her the script, and then as she read off these number of deaths, she realized how many of her countrymen had died.  She had no time to prepare herself or put on an act. These are her raw emotions.

Not like what we get here in the states with the cold dead unfeeling eyes of anchors who hope for sensational disasters so they can excitedly exaggerate the number of deaths and speculate on more to come after a word from their sponsors. I apreciate seeing a professional anchor woman who feels for the unimaginable and terrible loss of her countrymen/ women (and children).
