Welcome to my Japanese apartment, the 2nd one I've lived in while in Japan.
My first apartment was supplied by the JET Program when I was an ALT from 2004 to 2009.
A vlog, shot in the summer, looking around that apartment can be seen here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXBj-6Ext8I

This is my current apartment, and I'm getting more and more used to it.

In this vlog I discuss:
1 - tatami mats and sleeping on the floor
2 - no central heating and the use of kotatsu
3 - my rent and a few other utilities
4 - having no clothes dryer
5 - being just a little too tall to get thru the door ways
and much more

  • I'm currently in college going for my bachelors in English while trying to learn Japanese. After i'm done with my bachelors I want to join JET and do ALT for 5 years. I watch a lot of your videos when I get the chance but I'm still debating on whether I should take a few Japanese classes after I earn my degree or just join when I'm close to done with it. What do you suggest?

  • @okamishojo75 If you're eager to come to Japan, you can certainly apply in your senior year of uni, and as long as you graduate by June of the year you want to go, you'll be fine.

You don't need to know Japanese to be a JET ALT, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

  • Wow that's an inexpensive place. I'm surprised at how big it is. But ya'know I'm an eighth grader so I dont know much about tatami mats hahaha. But when I grow into and old lady I want to try to get into JET but I gotta wait for like 4 and a half years and then college :/ I really like your vlogs though it's entertaining. (this is super long, sorry I feel like in spamming ur vid)

  • @chocolatehippocool no problem - thanks for the nice comment. Study hard, go to college and study some Japanese along the way. Best of luck on your journey to Japan!

  • I just love watching your vlogs Jason-san. They are so informative and wonderful to watch. I'm working toward being a JET or working for GABBA to teach in Japan so if you have any tips or anything please message me. Peace and Love!

  • @dagger09 cool - thanks for watching! Lots of tips spread out over about 200 videos... :P Ganbatte! I hope you make it to Japan.

I think is how you do it... let's see if that works. Thanks for the quick response :)

  • @everfangomanga thanks for the tip - I've never done those tags before, but I can try when I next post a longer video.

  • Great in-depth tour! Thanks for sharing your apartment with us :) It would be kind of cool for your longer videos to have "bookmarks" in the description with the @mm:ss tag so we could jump ahead to specific parts of the tour!
