Jesus claims to have the power/authority to die and come back to life:
"I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd. This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down ON MY OWN. I have power to LAY IT DOWN, and power to TAKE IT UP AGAIN. This command I have RECEIVED from my Father.
Again there was a division among the Jews because of these words. Many of them said, "He is possessed and out of mind; why listen to him?" Others said, "These are not the words of one possessed; surely a demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?" - John 10:14-21

You notice, he said, "This I have received from my Father" This is because He and the Father are ONE and the Father "SENT" Jesus Christ. If Jesus did not have the power to take his life away and bring it back, he would not have uttered the words "ON MY OWN."

Jesus was speaking as GOD at one point in the quote and then as a HUMAN at the end. To give credit to the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit which is ONE GOD in three persons.

This is the Mystery of the Trinity, but it is known that God became Flesh, for God was the WORD made Flesh. Jesus Christ has both HUMAN and DIVINE nature, they are not separate, but they are two natures combined, just as the three natures of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, are ONE.

You do know there are two Immanuel's? Leave it to the Catholics to go strait to the virgin birth. Lets read it all shall we:

(Isa 7:15 KJV) Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

(Isa 7:16 KJV) For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

Jesus Christ is alive in the religion He established and continues to build. Jesus Christ IS in the Catholic Church, and you will never be able to truly know Him until you seek Him through the Church which He has protected from teaching error by the Holy Spirit.

You have no support for Jesus ever thinking he was equal to GOD but I have plenty to show he was equal; to gods of Psalms 82:6 and John 10:34-35 ος εν μορφη θεου υπαρχων ουχ αρπαγμον ηγησατο το ειναι ισα θεω αλλ εαυτον εκενωσεν μορφην δουλου λαβων εν ομοιωματι ανθρωπων γενομενος και σχηματι ευρεθεις ως ανθρωπος εταπεινωσεν εαυτον γενομενος υπηκοος μεχρι θανατου θανατου δε σταυρου
