This segment from the televised 1991 Walt Disney World Very Merry Christmas Parade highlights the just-opened Beauty and the Beast stage show at Disney-MGM Studios. The show opened on November 22 1991, the same day as the movie, and is still running (in a revised version) today.

This show marks the first time Disney's Beauty and the Beast ever appeared on stage. While most of the show is prerecorded with the original movie voices, Belle and Gaston speak and sing live.

  • Interesting to note in this clip that Belle dances with the Beast before his transformation into Prince Adam, whereas in the show now the song "Beauty and the Beast" doesn't play until after the Transformation scene.

  • @DisneyFan16672 Right, but that was done just for this TV segment! It was never that way in the actual show. I think they just wanted a smooth transition from live action to the animation at the end.

  • OMG! HAHA! Thanks Galen! That was one of the HOTTEST things I ever did! After shooting that in the middle of a hot day, they actually treated us to catered food. Then, they decided to shoot some more! With more INTENSE lights. I felt like I was getting sunburned through my fur! I'm so glad you posted this. i don't have any video of myself. Thanks Again!

  • @keonevens Sure thing, Brad/Keon! I remember the lights too, but mainly the SUN. Look at how Trudie and (especially) I are squinting! Brutal. I always thought the show looked so great and felt like "theatre" at night, but of course we almost never did it then. The new theatre is a BIG improvement on the old "frying pan" where we started it!

  • whats it like to be on the stage with a large audience?because i got a lead in my school musical but im stage fright D: what would i do if i freeze up during the performance <:( btw you make a very epictastic gaston~

  • @scv25 Thanks! I'm guessing you auditioned for the musical, so you must have known what you were getting into, right? The usual advice is that you should try to imagine the audience sitting there in their underwear. You could try that! Really, a little nervousness is normal, but I suspect when you get out there you'll be just fine. Break a leg!

  • Wasn't Belle's voice always live? I worked there at the Studios from 7/90 to 3/04. I have a funny story that happened at the cast trailer when it moved to Sunset Blvd.

  • @galenfott Cool! It's awesome to talk to someone who was involved with the show! I agree that it was a nice transition from the live action stage to the animation of the ballroom scene. I always make sure to see this show every time I visit the Walt Disney World resort, and I hope it sticks around for generations to come! Thanks for being a part of one of my favorite shows, and Happy Thanksgiving!

  • @galenfott i did audition but i thought id only get a supporting character but i guess in a way i did know what i was getting myself into :) Thanks! ill do that! :D Thanks i'll try my hardest ^^

  • @MangaMoon95 Thanks!
