Gear Driven 86 Monte Carlo SS

What's not to like? A gbody with a gear drive, music to my ears. I'm getting a new engine soon (for my '80 Malibu) and will also be putting a gear drive in it.

@dariowsky But there has been a change in plan. No gear drive in it now. But it is getting a new Pypes exhaust to go with the 355. :-)

@Ph0enyx1978 I've never heard of Pypes brand..I know that 355 is a good motor (from personal experience.) I wonder how mine would sound with a supercharger and gear drive.

Most diesel engines that use a gear set use a two gear set with no floating idler gears. There is no slop because there is no idler gear.Gear drive on a street car is a bad idea. Pete Jackson and all the other cheap knock off drives are garbage. The harmonics passed through a gear drive setup is a killer on a street engine.

@217zenki Actually, the gear drive creates an effect like a diesel engine with its idler gear that allows the engine to spin with less friction when its in gear. My car will outrun some Hondas, but there are some radical rice burners out there! What really upsets Me is to get beat by a 97 Grand Prix.

LOL pointless.. More drag on the engine nothing to accomodate the "hotrod" sound.. LOL.. Must suck to think you sound badass but cant win against a honda in a race.
