My first lesson in China was on "Music" and I started with "Springhill Mining Disaster" because there had been a recent tragedy in a Chinese mine...Talked a bit about folk music and different genres and then had a CD sorting excersise....Very remedial stuff...My first time in a classroom..After the 3rd week of that lesson I started doing "Country Roads" by John Denver and dropped "Springhill" because they wanted to sing along....My very second class of TEFL in China, I decided to focus on the subject of "language" and linguistics....Why do we use it, where does it come from, what kinds of language..what makes a language..etc....Started with this song (partly because they kept asking me if I was homesick) then showed the Dylan video..Immediately after that I showed Weird Al Yankovic's spoof that was all palindromes...So I shifted to having fun with language...This was my version of the song... though the images were from Wuhan over a year later....Threw this together in a couple of hours last night...because I liked the arrangement...
