Dag is a relic of the Cold war past, his idealism died with him. Can't help noticing you omitted Russia and China at the cost of emphasizing a hawkish US. You skipped over the connection to UNs insistance that America lead a coalition into Iraq, thus making UN hawkish...and Bill Clinton allowing himself to be used like a tool for UN mandates in the Balkans. A UN w/o connivance would be fitting but remember this entity consists of politicos from every nation while US funds 90% of the tab.

If the IAEA was given more power other than to be a simple technician, if you will, that just checks to make sure a country follows guidelines, they might be able to keep nations from going nuclear. You also know how many nations did not go nuclear in the last 30 years. The amount of troops that the US sends in to the Peacekeepers numbers less than one percent Yeah we definitely are the UN's attack dog... But hey, at least you are better than some and aren't calling for the UN to leave New York

So what do you propose, we go back to pre-WW2 style League of Nations and sit back and relax as potentially dangerous nations become dangerous as Germany and Japan did. This is the best it can do with an imperialist US, a decaying Europe, a hot bed of international chaos in the Middle East, a rising Far East, and an entire continent on the verge, or already in, civil chaos.
