"I wanted to make a video that entertains as well as informs." Sam Syrop
Last summer Sam Syrop, a student at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, interned with Riverkeeper's Indian Point Campaign. Sam's family members have been active Riverkeeper supporters for years, so, of course, it seemed likely that Sam -- the youngest of three boys -- would also work on Riverkeeper issues. In between working, applying for colleges, participating in varsity football, and just being a kid, Sam created Riverkeeper's first-ever YouTube video! [link]
An award-winning filmmaker already at the age of 17 (he won the 2007 Best High School Documentary at the NCCTV Film Festival), Sam's use of visuals, music, and montage create a compelling case for why residents young and old should oppose a twenty-year license extension for Indian Point.
Sam's currently the captain of his swim team and is gearing up for a life in New York City next fall as he enters the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Hopefully, he won't forget about Riverkeeper when he becomes famous!!
Keep it open...its vital to our city.
Ignorant people like the poster need to fully educate themselves on the facts behind nuclear and stop watching Fox propaganda.

I'm all for keeping indian point open. When it comes time to relicense the plant, I am sure the NRC will make the appropriate decision, taking everything into consideration.
There is no reason to shut down a healthy plant. Do you realize how much of an investment would be lost in doing that? Keep it open as long as its safe. :Let the NRC be the one to decide that, they know what theyre doing better than we do.

Indian point dumps super heated water? Then why do they have a cooling canal that runs the entire length of the facility that returns water to the Hudson thats only 1.2 degrees F higher than when it came in?

they don't dump it in the hudson river

You need to do their homework before taking sides. Nuclear power is clean reliable energy if operated in a responsible manner which Indian Point is. Most of these videos are environmentalist propaganda with no factual information to back up the trash talking. Zero CO2 emission power-plants are here. Not to mention the fact that the nuclear plants in the US are of a much different design than that of Chernobyl. An accident like that will not happen in the US.

@cobralover88 The sirens never work because they are absolute garbage. Look into the company Acoustic Technology Inc, or ATI. Their track record for failures of their products is absolutely unacceptable. They are literally the worst outdoor warning device on the market today. For such a controversial plant in such a populated area, the least they could do is provide a reliable warning system.

nice video! As I am living in the zone, I am all for closing the irresponsible and dangerous Indian Point facilities. It is just a matter of time before something regrettable and world-altering happens there.

I gave this video 2 stars because at least it is well made. But aside from that all of the information in the film is absolutely wrong!
There have been over 100 nuclear plants that have been running in the US since the 1970s and there has not been one death that you could attribute to the use of nuclear power.
France is currently the 2nd lowest producer of CO2 in western Europe. That is due to the fact that they receive 80% of their electricity from nuclear.

so wait, if the plant recieved a "C" rating which is an "F" really, isnt that reason enough to shut down the plant? the fact that its 40
MIN. awawy from new york city doesnt help matters. the sirens never work either. i mean cmon. we might aw well paint a giant ass bullseye on the main reactor so terrorists now where to fly into
