MSF began work in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, in 1999 after horrific ethnic violence forced thousands of Madurese into makeshift urban camps in the areas of Pontianak and Singkawang. They were not welcome in the area and MSF nurse Kelly Grimshaw, who arrived in 2001, says the resentment extended to the aid workers there to protect this vulnerable population. Here, Kelly explains the project and why it was her most challenging yet.
