Yeah you are right the original is Larry Graham but this version is on Stanley Clarke's album 1,2 to the bass.
-
I thought this was originally a Larry Graham track?

@ramon709 Yeah, don't get Bartolini's. They sound too good, why would you want that?
-
@Sadim1 bartolini is like a 13 in a dozen sound, you seriously do not want bartolini's on your bass.
-
NO, alembic DOES NOT use Bartolini pickups and electronics, they manufacture everything for their basses in house (except for the tuners, I think) Bartolini makes great stuff as well, but Alembic makes their own.
-
@nsjmusic does anyone know how the alembic essence 4 is? I know its one of the "low-end" models but is it still very versatile and reliable?

what so is this?
Hair but from who?
I think you will find that Alembic only install their own pickups on their instruments.
I have seen second hand Alembics that people have installed bartolini's into but that is an after purchase customisation.
Check out the Alembic Web site if you want clarification.
Enjoy whatever bass or electronics or pickups that make the sound you prefer to hear. We all have different tastes and that is great.

What makes Alembic pickups great pickups?

I guess its down to what personal taste as to what you define as a great pickup. Alembic certainly make pickups differently to many manufacturers since they are low impedance single coils which gives greater fidelity to the sound. On this particular bass the coils are hum cancelling which is completely different to humbucking.
Alembic also do not voice their pickups as many manufacturers do. Their pickups are designed purely to reproduce the natural signal created by the string vibrations.

Nah,I'm quite happy with my version of Stanley's interpretation of the track.
