When someone puts two wires under a set screw on a breaker that is designed for one wire, that is called a double tap & a safety concern. I find double tapped circuit breakers in 85% of the homes I inspect.

  • Is the breaker UL listed for (2) wires or not? SQ D breakers are listed for (2) wires.

  • @mnskeeter The breakers are not listed for two wires & are not Square D for sure.

  • This is a 200 amp main breaker panel by Eaton/ Cutler-Hammer. It's their CH line. This is a premier piece of electrical equipment. It comes with a copper busbar and the breakers feature a full trip mechanism. Cutler-Hammer is also the company that provides listed circuit breakers for replacement in Crouse Hindes, Challenger, Bryant, and Westinghouse load centers. They're a damn good company.

  • Never done this, hate it when its done, i use double breakers always to save space.

  • Actually, my guess on the panel manufacturer would be Bryant. These were not at all designed for 2 circuits to be terminated on them as required by the NEC and most AHJ's.
