Game Player's Gametape - Mega Man 2

Hey, kids! Want to learn how to beat Mega Man 2 like the pros? Me neither! But this will show you how to nearly die in every possible way! Remember, kids, just keep running through things!

BACKSTORY: So, thrift store runs are awesome, just for finding stuff like this.

For those not in the know or are too whippersnappish to remember, every Game Magazine / Scholastic School Book Club / Guy Who Wanted a Quick Buck out there back in the day tried to make some sort of profit from the bleeding edge of the game market. In the archiac dystopian past, Friendship was cutthroat and based on how awesome your game knowledge was at games. Some kids relied on Nintendo Power and EGM. Others believed the dude who said you could make Mario as big as the screen by eating 100 mushrooms in a row. And others... Had these tapes. Those, poor, poor bastards (Myself included; I had a Blaster Master tape back in the day. Taught me *shit* on how to Blast or Mast, I assure you.) Made by researching teams and about 15 minutes with the game total, it's an interesting look at what we had to deal with when we were that desperate to get through a level. And apparently, so were they.

This is only one segment of a series of tapes from the old magazine "Game Player's Magazine", but I think they had little to do with the actual tapes, as "Signal Research" is plastered at the bottom of each one. I'd love to know more information on what was going on here. Also, more glorious hilarity to come in the future.

I have three tapes worth of the stuff, each bought for a buck a piece and they all have four segments of "pro gamer" glory.

Of course it stops at Wily (WILEY?? Gh!) - these folks SUCK. I wouldn't have sucked this bad at Mega Man 2 as a kid...okay, maybe not, but these are presumably adults, here. Oy.

I'd buy a copy of every one of these tapes just to LAUGH at how bad they are, then play the mentioned games via emulation or Wii Virtual Console, and out-do everything they're doing. Not to prove my superiority (I suck at NES games, despite growing up on them XD), but to get even more laughs out of this. What a show...

I had this tape when I was a kid. I always assumed that they never figured out how to beat Dr. Wily, so that's why the video just ends there.
